10 To enable ALSA support you need at least to build the kernel with
11 primary sound card support (CONFIG_SOUND). Since ALSA can emulate OSS,
12 you don't have to choose any of the OSS modules.
14 Enable "OSS API emulation" (CONFIG_SND_OSSEMUL) and both OSS mixer and
15 PCM supports if you want to run OSS applications with ALSA.
17 If you want to support the WaveTable functionality on cards such as

1126 On some hardwares, you may need to add a proper probe_mask option

1129 (likely a modem one) causes a stall of the communication via HD-audio

2381 Early Buffer Allocation

2384 Some drivers (e.g. hdsp) require the large contiguous buffers, and
2385 sometimes it's too late to find such spaces when the driver module is
2386 actually loaded due to memory fragmentation. You can pre-allocate the
2387 PCM buffers by loading snd-page-alloc module and write commands to its
2388 proc file in prior, for example, in the early boot stage like
2389 /etc/init.d/*.local scripts.
2391 Reading the proc file /proc/drivers/snd-page-alloc shows the current
2392 usage of page allocation. In writing, you can send the following
2393 commands to the snd-page-alloc driver:
2395 - add VENDOR DEVICE MASK SIZE BUFFERS
2397 VENDOR and DEVICE are PCI vendor and device IDs. They take
2398 integer numbers (0x prefix is needed for the hex).
2399 MASK is the PCI DMA mask. Pass 0 if not restricted.
